CD - Goodness Knows…

In 2001, Emma went into the studio with four of her favourite musicians. Neil Angilley, Jerome Davies, Ian Ellis and Matthew Skeaping. She wanted to record a straight-ahead jazz album demonstrating her range, with the best players she knew. Thus, she and bassist/arranger Jerome Davies sat down together to work out what they would do, and how they would do it.

They arrived at a wide selection of songs from the classic "All or Nothing at All", to the little known Dr John number "So Long" in order to deliver an album that was designed almost as a Victorian sampler of styles, feel, and musical range. Where possible, old songs were given new clothes, such as Yesterdays, which starts with just bass and voice, and Honeysuckle Rose, which is delivered almost as a waltz.

The end result is a bouncy, but balanced album which came to the attention of the legendary Gordon Giltrap, who then went to his own record company, Voiceprint, and introduced Emma and her work to them. They in turn offered to release the record on their jazz label.

Goodness knows will therefore shortly be available from Voiceprint and from Ray's Jazz Shop at Foyles in London.
